Anne Hessaltine Graham-Tinker (DNA-BREWSTER Part 2)

This post is a continuation of my previous post concerning the ancestors of my husbands 2nd Great Grandmother one Anne Hessaltine GRAHAM-TINKER and his DNA connections to her family. You will find the previous post HERE.

 When we left off in our previous post we had looked at the ancestors of Anne Hessaltine GRAHAM-TINKER through her BAYLESS line. Anne`s Maternal Great-Grandmother was one Mary BREWSTER born about 1720 .She was the daughter of one Daniel BREWSTER & Mary THOMPSON. Mary BREWSTER married one William NODDING.

Mary BREWSTER-NODDING`s direct ancestral line leads back to the gentleman here in this picture one William BREWSTER born about 1566 in Yorks, England. He was the son of one William & Mary (SMYTHE) BREWSTER.  William was a passenger on the Mayflower in 1620, he later became a Separatist and a Preacher. In other words he wanted to seperate rather than reform to the Church of England. You can read more about William BREWSTER and his Mayflower Voyage HERE.

There is a lot of ongoing speculation online regarding the paternity of one Rev. Natheniel BREWSTER who was Anne GRAHAM-TINKER`s 5th Great-Grandfather. According to a website entitled: The Brewster Family of Long Island the author states the following:

  "There is a discrepancy in the leineage of the Brewsters.  Family notes indicate that Nathaniel Bewster was the son of Jonathon Brewster and Lucretia Oldham. Jonathon was the eldest son of Elder William Brewster. No record exists that Jonathon had a son Nathaniel. Nathaniel rather is the son of Francis Brewster - probably no relation to William". Here is another interesting website on the lineage of Rev Nathaniel BREWSTER who also attempts to discredit the fact that he may have descended from the above William BREWSTER of Mayflower fame. I prefer not to repeat everything, if you wish to read that you may visit the website HERE.

I have stated many, many times on this blog that DNA does not lie. I prefer to use DNA along with traditional paper research to see if I can debunk family mysteries such as this. It is my opinion based on DNA evidence alone that the above Rev. Nathaniel BREWSTER  was INDEED the son of Johnathan BREWSTER and the grandson of the above William 'Mayflower" BREWSTER. Lets look at my husbands DNA connections regarding Anne GRAHAM-TINKER`s BREWSTER family line.

William (Mayflower) BREWSTER was my husbands 11th Great Grandfather. His lineage goes as follows all the way back to Anne Hessaltine GRAHAM-TINKER

Let us look at some of my husbands DNA matches that descend from the above William (Mayflower) BREWSTER.

Notice the above match is listed as : "5th Cousin-Remote Cousin". According to Family Tree DNA the definition of the term a 5th-Remote Cousin is as follows:

"In some cases, your relationship may be as close as 5^th cousins. It may also be as remote as 20^th cousins." (FT-DNA)

In the above case this cousin turned out to be an 11th cousin, once removed as you will note from his lineage below. He descends from William (Mayflower) BREWSTER`s daughter Fear BREWSTER & her husband Isaac ALLERTON Sr.

 

The next match descends through William (Mayflower) BREWSTER`s son: Love BREWSTER and is as follows:

This person is also a 5th-Remote Cousin. This one turned out to actually be a 10th cousin, twice removed. His line goes as follows:

This next cousin I have saved for last simply because I believe he and my husband have more than one DNA connection. I think the system picks up on the closest connection when it gives you the estimated relationship. As you can see below it estimates that he and this match are about a 3-5th Cousin, likely a 4th. As I stated I feel that 4th Cousin relationship is through another line and is not relative to what I am trying to accomplish here. This person works out to be an 11th Cousin based on the shared BREWSTER DNA.

His line leads back to Johnathan BREWSTER & Lucretia OLDHAM which are my husbands 10th great grandparents and the parents of the above Rev. Nathaniel BREWSTER around who so much controversy exsists and as I previously stated just so happens to be Anne Hessaltine GRAHAM-TINKER`s 5th Great Grandfather. 

BREWSTER DNA Project

A message board posting dated 21 May, 2007 by one Jeanne E. Killick, Co-administrator of the

BREWSTER/BRUSTER Surname DNA Project at the World Families Network, located at the link posted above she states the following:

"Early on in the Project, the majority of those tested were "strongly believed" to be descendants of the Elder William through three of his great-great grandsons: WILLIAM, EBENEZER and/or SAMUEL. These three brothers descend from Elder William's son JONATHAN.The only way that we could truly "confirm" that we were on the right track was to find another of Elder William's male descendants through another of his sons. Fortunately, another researcher joined the project who descends from Elder William through his son LOVE.This researcher's DNA results have just been posted, and his results tie all of us together, thereby confirming that eight of the fifteen participants "definitely" descend from the Elder William Brewster of Mayflower fam
There are several distinct BREWSTER lines that are not yet represented in the DNA Project, and we strongly encourage all of you male BREWSTERs who represent these lines (and any others not mentioned) to join the Project in order to identify the DNA of these lines"

I think DNA evidence has concluded that I am on the right track and that it Debunks the myth that the parents of Rev Nathaniel BREWSTER was Francis BREWSTER, it clearly shows him to descend from Elder William (Mayflower) BREWSTER`s son one Johnathan BREWSTER if you descend from this line I would love to hear from you as well.
