Research Notes-Amanda A.C Eads nee McDaniel-Pt.2

This post continues where I left off on Part 1. In this post I am going to take the information that I have gotten thus far from cousin Frieda and put it side by side with what my own research has turned up. You may want to open both these posts side by side or print them out so that you can follow along thus far.

Lets begin with the birth information for Grandmother Amanda:

I show a birth date of 4 November, 1834 in Davie County, North Carolina. However, her tombstone states she was born November 1849.  The tombstone appears to be a newer one and so I am really unsure as to who had the stone placed and who gave the information that is on the stone

Now, if we look at the information I posted in part taken from the Ministers Notes that attended Grandmothers funeral we can see he states her birth date to be: 4 November, 1834 which lines up with what I have. Provided that is correct we can see that her tombstone is indeed incorrect! Also her death date on her tombstone states her date of death to be February, 1917 which we can also see is incorrect. See her entry at Find A Grave HERE.

Now, lets look at this ministers notes again. He states that our Amanda was the daughter of Albert and Cassie McDaniel. Please let me go on record here stating that this is the only reference I have ever seen to Cansadie McDaniels husband being named Alfred. I have not seen it in any records or documents anywhere!

Lets look again at the copy of the will of Gilpen Eades which I posted on part 1 of this series. It states that Gilpen`s daughter "Casandy McDaniel was the wife of Allen McDaniel"

So, Consadies father says her husbands name was Allen not Albert. Referring again to the passage in the book The Heritage of Iredell County 1980 and the excerpt written by Hazel Speece Wilson she states that Consadie married one Albert McDaniel. (see part 1 to read the excerpt in detail).

I feel that this Albert floating around has came from that passage by Ms. Wilson. Let me go on to elaborate that Ms. Wilson has since passed away and so I cannot contact her to find out what her source for said information was. I have not read the book but do intend to see if I can locate a copy and see if there are any sources listed for this particular entry.

Lets look at Documents and what they tell us about Consadie and her husband: (See my prior post about Consadie/Kansadie Eades McDaniel)

Now I find a North Carolina marriage record for one Nattie McDaniel (Allen and Sadie` daughter) and in said record, Nattie`s parents names are listed as: J.A McDaniels and Kansadie McDaniels. Nattie married a John A. Dishman son of Silas and Adeline Dishman.

Once again no name of Albert mentioned anywhere for Consadie`s husband, but now we have the initial J. So we have the name J. Allen McDaniel.

North Carolina, Marriages, 1759-1979," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F884-1J7 : accessed 10 Mar 2013), Kansadie Mcdaniels in entry for John A. Dishman and Nattie Mcdaniel, 25 Dec 1919.

On the 1910 Census his name is listed as: Alvim which is a misspelling for Allen. And on the 1900 census he is listed as: Allisom which again is a misspelling. On the 1880 Census he is listed as Allen. You can find the info from the census in my earlier post which I have linked above.

So, from what I have seen thus far it is my conclusion as far as the name of Consadies Husband, it is J. Allen McDaniel not Albert McDaniel.

I have to run to a meeting but when I am finished with the meeting I will pick up where I left off and go through the rest of the information I have in a third post. So stay tuned!
