Research Notes-Amanda A.C Eads nee McDaniel-Part 1

If you have been reading my prior posts then you know that much of what this blog has consisted of thus far is my research concerning my Eads line. I have been going back through my email conversations with other Eads researchers and so today I am going to focus on trying to find some answers. (Please see prior post entitled Sorting a Mess). This message will be posted in parts to cut down on the reading, since it is quite a lot to read in one post.

I have an email conversation between myself and cousin Frieda Wilkerson dated 2 September 2011. She and I had been discussing the confusion over the parents of our Great, Great, Grandmother Amanda America Clementine McDaniel Eads. First I want to thank Frieda for her work in compiling what she did for our family tree.

Lets look at the main things to note from her message to me that day:

  1. She sent me a copy of a hand written paper which were some notes that the Minister used for the funeral of Amanda America Clementine McDaniel-Eads. The following is what was written word for word in this paper she sent me:
"Mrs. Amanda A.C. McDaniel was born Nov.4, 1834 in N.C and died Jan. 12, 1917 in Silva, Wayne Co. Mo at the age of 82 yrs,2mos,8 days. she was the daughter of Albert and Cassie McDaniel. In March of 1855 she was united in marriage to Frank Eads in N.C and to this union was born eleven children, three living. Wyatt Eads, and Mrs. Molly Ward of Silva, and Houston Eads of Hiram, Eight deceased, W.M Eads, Mrs. Roxanne Vannoy, Mrs. Nancy Johnson, and Clemon, Lucy, Johnnie, Minnie, and Martha Eads who all died in the early bloom of life. Many Grandchildren and the husband service also.
Before leaving N.C Mrs. Eads was converted to the Baptist faith and upon coming to Wayne County, she united with the Little Lake Church. She later moved her membership to New Prospect church and then to New Hope Church. She lived a faithful christian life and was a loving mother to a large family.
The funeral was held in the New Prospect church house with Elder W.C Davis affiliating, bearers were Irving Campbell, Bowman Eads, B.F Eads, Mack Eads, Arthur Johnson, and W.F Vannoy, burial in the nearby cemetery".

     2. Will of Gilpin Eads Excerpt given to me by Frieda:
"I will and bequeath to my other daughters Lavina Davis, wife of Alexander Davis, Nancy Dishman wife of Thomas A Dishman, and Casandy McDaniel wife of Allen McDaniel".

    3. She notes 1860 Census for Iredell, N.C:

"Shows  Mary, Franklin and Alfred Eads living with John Eads".

    4. She notes Marriage Records of Davie County, N.C:

"Shows marraige of Amanda McDaniel to Franklin Eads married, Nov. 11 1860."

The following is an excerpt in Friedas own words from the email she sent to me:

"I know the ages dont match up, but grandpa Franklin Eads said he was 104 years old when he died, we know that is wrong. Grandma always said she was 10 years younger than him on the census. Grandpa was 5 years off on their marriage and his age was wrong on all the Census.
With what we have, I think Amanda A.C McDaniel Eads was the daughter of Consadie and Albert McDaniel and Consadie was the daughter of Gilpen Eads".

    5. She notes some Lineage Charts from Iredell Co. N.C and an excerpt from and article in the book entitled: "The Heritage of Iredell County 1980" by Hazel Speece Wilson (article author).I have referenced this in an early post.  She states that Ms. Wilson said the following:

"Consadie  grew up and married Albert McDaniel son of Merkie and George McDaniel of Davie, North Carolina. They had children Notie, Daisy, Jack, Vance, Henry, John, Jane and Amanda, they had two children who were deaf-mutes."

Frieda goes on to tell me the following:

"I have not worked on this line for a long time and I am sure this seems like a mess to you. If you can get this family straight please let me know. I think you are on the right track. Gilpin Eades will does also state Cansady McDaniel was the wife of Allen McDaniel. I cant read the date he signed the will but Cansady McDaniel was alive then".

6. She cites the Civil War Pension application for John Eads:

"In the Civil War Pension Application for John Eads brother to our William Franklin Eads, Eli McDaniel, said he was a cousin to John Eads and had lived with him in North Carolina, Tennessee and Missouri."

7. Frieda stated the following as well:

"Johnathan Barrett (Barrat, Barret, Berit) married Margaret Gilpin is in the DAR A006681. If we can prove our John Eads was the son of Ezekiel Eades and Mary Polly Barrot we can have another DAR patriot. I do feel we are getting closer to the truth, keep digging, love cuz, Frieda Jean".

NOTE: See part two of this post where I analyze this information based on what I know thus far.
