The McDaniel`s, The Berryman`s & The Dishman`s

As you may be aware, if you have been following my blog for any length of time, I have been on the quest to find the parents of my paternal third great grandfather one Allen McDANIEL.

In order to locate him I have been using a combination of my genetic geneaology (DNA) and an old fashioned paper trail to lead me to them.

There are some commonalities within a few things that I did want to share here with you this evening. I am hoping some seasoned researcher out there will see this and can help me put the pieces together.

As I have spoke in times past, I look at each piece of my family history as pieces to a jigsaw puzzle. So here in this post I will be sharing a few of those pieces with you.

Some time ago I was introduced to some cousins via the Gedmatch website. Shortly thereafter I joined their group on Facebook (which regrettably I had to leave for a time due to the birth of our grandson and family issues taking up the biggest part of my time).  We all noted that we seemed to have a common tie to a gentleman named: Benjamin BERRYMAN.

Back then I could not make heads nor tails of that information as I had never heard the name before in all of my years of research.  Fast forward to this week and I will tell you some things that I have recently uncovered within the course of my research.

1. I found a Benjamin BERRYMAN living next to who I suspect is my 4th Great Grandfather one Allin McDANIEL in Rowan County, North Carolina.
2.One of said Benjamin BERRYMAN`s sons married a DISHMAN.
3.The DISHMAN family married into my EADS/EADES Family
4. The McDANIEL married into my EADS/EADES Family.
5.One of my cousins has who he believes to be his Great Grandfather (forgot how many generations back) named Joseph STEGALD who married one Sarah Luna McDANIEL. I do not know just how but I would be willing to bet that said Sarah is kin to my McDANIEL family.

Benjamin BERRYMAN Sr was born 7 December, 1699 in Westmoreland County, Virginia.  He married one, Elizabeth NEWTON.
It appears their son: James BERRYMAN married one Sarah DISHMAN.  There is a DISHMAN family website that lists some information for James BERRYMAN and wife Sarah DISHMAN.
That website is located HERE. There are lots of marriages between the DISHMAN, McDANIEL and BERRYMAN families.

My question is: Just how does this BERRYMAN family connect to me? Who were my fourth great grandparents?

I hope that I can begin to unravel these mysteries and more soon! Stay tuned!

New EADS Info Added!

I wanted to post an update and let my readers know that I have added a new page on this blog. It is called Wayne County Missouri Roots. You will find the link at the top. What I have added on that page is my direct paternal line. My EADS family settled in Wayne County, Missouri after having came here from Iredell and Davie County, North Carolina along with some members of the McDANIEL family. I will be adding more content in the days to come as I have some other EADS and MCDANIEL ancestors to add to the page. For the most part it currently contains my Direct line from my Paternal Grandfather and his siblings all the way up to my 2nd Great Grandparents.

In spite of all my efforts I am still seeing some incorrect information floating around concerning Consadie EADES. I know I have been beating a dead horse here (no disrespect intended) but it is imperative that this erroneous information get corrected. I have updated Consadie`s page with some actual documentations verses just my word.

Update on Consadie EADES Part 2

This post is a continuation of my prior post updating some new information on Consadie EADES-MCDANIEL that I wanted to share with my readers.

When we left off I was speaking about Ms. Wilson, in her article having stated that Albert MCDANIEL was the son of George and Merkie MCDANIEL and how I have not proven that statement to be true.

I did some thinking and granted this only a hypothetical statement and I do not have anything to back it up. I am only listing it here to see what others might think about it. Ms. Wilson was adamant about the fathers name being George and the mother being Merkie. We have ruled out George Washington MCDANIEL and America COPE. So lets assume that perhaps Allen MCDANIEL and Rebecca BART were actually named: George Allen MCDANIEL and America Rebecca BART? Bear with me for a minute. Naming traditions a lot of the times hold to the fact that parents name their first born after themselves and or grandparents. So, we can see that Allen and Rebecca`s first son was named: George and their daughter (My great x 2 Grandmother) was named: Amanda "America" Clementine McDANIEL. Perhaps they named their children after themselves? Its not far fetched, but is only my thinking. I intend to do some research to see if I can turn up any records that might point to this. Let me first say, I know one of the golden rules in Geneaology is to never assume anything. So, please let it be known this is ONLY an assumption on my part and I cannot prove it with facts, as of yet. So, take it for what its worth. If that is not the case then I have no clue where she got those names for Albert`s parents as my information proves that his parents were Allen MCDANIEL and Rebecca BART.

I want to share with you a census record from the year 1870. One should always pay close attention to the neighbors living nearby when you do research on any family. Often they are extended family members living in the family farm or nearby.

I think that the 1870 census clearly shows us how these folks are related one to another. This looks to be the land or farm owned by Gilpen EADES as Ms. Speece was referencing in her article. (See Post 1). Lets explore those relationships.

1. Alfred MCDANIEL in household # 42 are the daughter and son in law of Gilpen and Patsey. Emeline is Jennie Jane EADES.
2. Lewis MCDANIEL in household #43 is the son of Allen MCDANIEL and Rebecca BART, his wife Rainey is the daughter of Gilpen and Patsey EADES.
3. Beccie DANIELS listed in household #44 is Rebecca BART, wife of Allen MCDANIEL and mother of Alfred, Lewis, Albert MCDANIEL.These boys married daughters of Gilpen and Patsey.
4. Household #45 is Albert and Consadie (Albert is living next door to his mother Rebecca and his father in law Gilpen EADES)
5. Household # 46 is Thelbert DISHMON. (Thomas Athlelbert DISHMON and his wife Nancy, Nancy is the daughter of Gilpen EADES)
6. Household # 47- Melvina Lavina EADES daughter of Gilpen & Patsey she married Alexander Ellis DAVIS.

I am not sure at this time where the WILLIAMS family fits in but know they tie in somehow. Please note that Melvina and Alexander DAVIS had a daughter and they named her: America Merila (Merky) DAVIS. So in that case we can see that the name America was shortened to Merky.

Note: I am not certain that the above Alfred MCDANIEL is the son of Rebecca and Allen MCDANIEL. I have to do some more research to see where he fits in at. 

Stay tuned for more updates. I think I have conclusivley proved time and again that Consadie EADES married Albert Allen MCDANIEL and that Albert Allen MCDANIEL was the son of Allen MCDANIEL and Rebecca BART. What more does anyone need to see this fact? The records speak for themselves.

Update on Consadie EADES MCDANIEL

Part One (See Part 2 for the continuation of this post after reading this one)

Today I have been doing some more research on the MCDANIEL and EADES families. Namely Consadie and Allen MCDANIEL.

The Iredell County Genealogical Society was kind enough to send me a copy of the article written on the  McDANIEL family contributed by Hazel Speece WILSON (See my prior posts for more on said article).

After having read through the article I decided to do some more research. I know there has been some confusion in the past as to the actual name for Consadie. I have seen it spelled in a variety of ways. I have put together a table with the spellings from each of the census years along with the spelling on her death certificate.



As you can see she has often been referred to as Fanny, Cansada, Cansady, Kansadie and even Soda! I have also seen the name MCDANIEL being written in a variety of ways. Take a look at the spelling on the 1930 census, they spelled it DANTIS.  I have seen DANIELS, DANIEL, MCDANIEL, MCDANIELS. MCDONNELL, MCDONALD......etc.

This week during my Genealogical studies we were learning about how we need to pay close attention to names and their derivatives.  Surnames often change through the years as well.

In the article that I got in today`s mail , Ms. Wilson stated that Consadie married Albert McDANIEL who was the son of George and Merkie MCDANIEL. That has puzzled me for some time because I clearly find him living in the house with Allen and Rebecca MCDANIEL and is listed as their son. So, given that bit of information I decided to go back into my files and see what I could find.

The only logical person that made since name wise was Allen`s brother, George Washington MCDANIEL and his wife America Loutisha COPE PARKS. Now it is obvious that there is no way that Allen could have been the son of his brother George and his wife America. But I kept wondering where Ms. Wilson could have gotten the name "Merkie" from? The only thing that made since was a derivative of America aka Merica or Merkie?? So, I decided to see if I could find anyone else in the area named George MCDANIEL with a wife named Merkie.

There is a second George Washington MCDANIELS and he married one Susannah "Susan" WILLIAMS. This George was the son of John Allen MCDANIEL and Rachael STEWART.  This George had a son named Albert Spencer MCDANIEL but he married one  Ida Jane SUMMERS. This Albert was born in 1867 in Davie County, North Carolina. In 1900 he was living with his wife Ida and there children so this rules this Albert MCDANIEL out, he could not be two places at once so there is no way he could have been Consadie`s husband.

The third George McDANIELS that I found was a son of  Lewis MCDANIELS and Rainey A. T. EADES, remember that Rainey was the sister to Consadie.  Lewis was the son of Allen MCDANIEL and Rebecca BART. This George was born in 1874. He married one Mary Jane RUPARD. Mary was the daughter of Caleb Phillip RUPARD and Lellice L CASEY. To my knowledge they did not have a son named Albert.

George Washington McDaniel

George Washington McDaniel was the son of J.Allen McDaniel and Rebecca McDaniel. Please refer to my earlier posts in which I list a message board posting from someone who states they believe my Great,Great Grandmother Amanda America Clementine McDaniel to be the daughter of Albert Allen McDaniel and Consadie Eades McDaniel. I have stated in earlier posts how that is not possible and given proof that in fact Allen McDaniel is the brother of my Grandmother and he does have a daughter named Amanda but it is not my Grandmother.

Anyhow, going on to the reason for this post. The Message board user refers to Albert Allen McDaniel being the son of one George and Merkie McDaniel. This post will try and track down just who this George and Merkie McDaniel really are.

These records here will be in no certain order as I am listing them as I come to them,so note that this post is as much for my benefit as it is the readers. Hopefully you can make some sense out of my posts.

I have located a Death Record for one Albert Spencer McDaniel son of George W. McDaniel and Susannah McDaniel nee Williams. Albert McDaniel was born 15 March 1867 in Davie County, North Carolina and married an Ida J. Summers. Albert died 11 August 1939 in Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina. Burial was at Smith Grove Cemetery in Mocksville, North Carolina. The death listing goes on to state that Albert`s father was born in Davie County, North Carolina.

I have located a Death record for one Adellia Herston died 17 June 1925 in Fulton, Davie, North Carolina. She was listed as being Widowed. She was laid to rest at Fork Church Cemetery, in Davie, North Carolina.

Adellia`s birth date is not given so I am unable to match her to any of the children listed on the census as of yet.

George Washington McDaniel passed away 25 October 1920 in Davie County, North Carolina.

Amanda "Mandy" McDaniel

Amanda "Mandy" McDaniel was born circa 1878 in New Hope, Iredell County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of J. Allen McDaniel and Kansadie (Fanny) McDaniel nee Eades. Some people tend to confuse Mandy with her Aunt Amanda America Clementine McDaniel.

Please see my earlier blog on posts on Amanda`s parents as well as her Aunts Amanda and Lutisha. I am slowly researching this family in detail and will be posting my findings here. I am just beginning to dig into Mandy`s past and what I find I will update in this posting.

I have located a marriage record between an Amanda McDaniel and one John Lotz on 6 February, 1894 in Randolph, North Carolina. I will say at this point that I do not know for certain this is the same Amanda. I will have to do some further research into this before I can say it is with any certainty. So if you are reading this please note that fact and do your own research, as you always should anyhow.

According to Mandy`s year of birth being 1878 this marriage date would put her at being 16 years of age which is about right for that time period. 

Randolph County, North Carolina is about 85 miles on today's map from Iredell, North Carolina where Mandy was born.  It is right at 62 miles from Davie County, North Carolina where the majority of the McDaniel family resided.

J.Allen McDaniel & Kansadie/Consadie Eades

The purpose of this post is to try and clear up some confusion. See my earlier posts on the McDaniel family members, you will find them listed over to the right under surnames to catch up on the reason behind this post.

Some family members believe that Amanda America Clementine McDaniel was the daughter of Allen McDaniel and Consadie Eades. However, I am not one of them. I beleive her to be the daughter of Allen and Rebecca McDaniel.

Lets begin with Allen McDaniel:

Allen McDaniel was the son of Allen McDaniel SR and Rebecca Eads who by the way are the parents of my Great, Great, Grandmother Amanda America Clementine McDaniel and her sister Lutisha. (See my earlier blog posts on these two women).

You will find Allen living with his parents and his sisters on the 1850 Census in Davie County, North Carolina.

1880 Census-New Hope, Iredell, North Carolina

• Allen McDaniel-age 32-born North Carolina
• Fannie McDaniel-age 25-born North Carolina
• John McDaniel-age 6-born North Carolina
• Vance McDaniel-age 4-born North Carolina
• Amanda McDaniel-age 2-born North Carolina

Lets stop for a minute and look at a prior conversation between Freida Wilkerson and I on a message board, this is the statement she made:

 "The Heritage of Iredell County 1980" by the Genealogical Society fo Iredell Co. has a page about the MCDANIEL family.
wrote by Hazel Speece Wilson. She states CONSADIE married ALBERT MCDANIEL, son of GEORGE and MERKIE MCDANIEL of Davie Co. N.C. They reared 8 children, : NOTIE, DAISYM JACK, VANCE, HENRY,JOHN, JANE AND AMANDA.

Hazel Speece Wilson has since passed away so I am unable to contact her directly to find out where her information came from and I have not read the book that Frieda references in her above post. However, take note that now Frieda is saying that Consadie married Albert McDaniel and before the man she married was Allen? Perhaps his name is Albert Allen McDaniel?? Anyhow, without knowing where Ms. Wilson got her information I still am inclined to doubt it at this point. 

Allen McDaniel (the man in this post) and his wife Sadie had a daughter named: Daisey McDaniel who married a Brewer. This information I am certain of. See the source below:

The information just from that source alone verifies that Allen McDaniel did marry Sadie Eades and they are the parents of Daisey McDaniel Brewer. 

Now I find a North Carolina marriage record for one Nattie McDaniel (Allen and Sadie` daughter) and in said record, Nattie`s parents names are listed as: J.A McDaniels and Kansadie McDaniels. Nattie married a John A. Dishman son of Silas and Adeline Dishman.

 So, from the above records we now have the names: J. A (Allen) and Kansadie (Sadie) McDaniels. 

On to the 1920 Census for Iredell, North Carolina

• John Dishman-age 25-born NC

The Notie in the census above is the Nattie in the above Marriage record, just a misspelling of her name, I presume.

On the 1910 Census for New Hope, Iredell County, North Carolina we find:

•   Mandy McDaniels-age 30
• Jane McDaniels-age 24
• John McDaniels-age 20
• Daisey McDaniels-age 15

On the 1900 Census for New Hope, Irdell, North Carolina we find:

• Allisom McDaniels-age 52
• Cansada McDaniels-age 48
• Mendy McDaniels-age 27
• Henry McDaniels-age 21
• Jessie McDaniels-age 15
• John McDaniels-age 10
• David McDaniels-age 8
• Roy McDaniels-age 4

 On the 1880 Census for New Hope, Iredell, North Carolina we find:

• Allen McDaniel-age 32
• Fannie McDaniel-age 25
• Vance McDaniel-age 4
• Amanda McDaniel-age 2

Given the above census info one can conclude that Kansadie`s nickname was Fannie, as they were married in 1873 according to the census records I have seen. I have yet to locate their marriage record but will update once I do.

To me the conclusion to the whole mess is as plain as the nose on ones face! Amanda America Clementine McDaniel was NOT The daughter of J.Allen McDaniel and Kansadie/Consadie Eades McDaniel or the daughter of Albert Allen McDaniel and Consadie Eades as many purport, instead she was the SISTER of J. Allen McDaniel who married Kansadie/Consadie/Sadie/Fanny Eades. Kansadie and J.Allen had a daughter named Amanda "Mandy" McDaniel, however, she born in 1880 some forty-six (46) years AFTER Amanda America Clementine McDaniel was born! Need I say more? 

 

Letitia/Lutisha McDaniel-Eads

In my quest to find the parents of my Great, Great Grandmother Amanda America Clementine McDaniel I have decided to focus this post on her sister: Letitia/Lutisha McDaniel who also married an Eads.

According to my conversation with other Find a Grave users and family members this is what I know about the family thus far:

I am referencing a message I recieved from Find a Grave user Cindy Leach Donigan Miller dated 1 Sept. 2011:

"I spoke with David Bollinger, a trustee of New Prospect Cemetery. He gave me additional info.- which is what you had posted in your original blog. He said that Amanda's sisters name was Lutisha & that Lutisha married Amanda's husband's (William Franklin Sr) brother Alfred. He also said that there existed an 1860 census which listed both Amanda & Lutisha as living with their mother Rebecca (Cansady Rebecca). Casandy's middle name was Rebecca & that is what name the census is under. This Rebecca McDaniel was born about 1819. This was in Shady Grove, Davie, North Carolina. Amanda is 21 @ the time & Lutisha is 20. I do not know who the Kansadie is that you refer to.
Dave wrote that every record he's ever seen has said that Albert Allen McDaniel & Casandy Rebecca Eades were the parents of Amanda. He said that the info came from Freda Jean Wilkerson of Poplar Bluff, MO, granddaughter of Mary Bell "Molly" (Eads)Ward."

Below you will find my response to her message which I sent on 2 Sept. 2011:

Daughter of Allen MCDANIEL Sr. & Rebecca STEWART-MCDANIEL
Amanda A. C MCDANIEL-EADES had the following siblings:

• Mary MCDANIEL (b) 1838-
• Letitia MCDANIEL (b) 1840- Married Alfred EADES
• George N. MCDANIEL (b) 1842-Married America Lutisha COPE-PARKS
• Eli MCDANIEL (b) 1843
• Allen MCDANIEL Jr. (b) 1848 Married Kansadie "Fanny"EADES
• Baby MCDANIEL (b) 1850 (no gender listed)

The above Allen MCDANIEL who married Kansadie Fanny EADES was not Amanda America Clementine MCDANIELS parents! Allen was her brother!

Her Father was Allen SR and he was married to Rebecca STEWART which was Amanda's mother. Rebecca may have had a first or middle name which may have been Cassie.

Kansadie EADES parents were Gilpin and Patsey (VEST) EADES. Gilpin was the son of Ezekiel EADES & Mary Polly BARROT

Now, Gilpin EADES (Kansadie Fanny EADES-MCDANIELS Father) was the son of Ezekiel EADES and Ezekiel had the following children with his wife Mary Polly BARROT:

• John EADES married Mary Polly MASSEY (These are my Great Grandparents 3 x)
• Gilpen EADES married Martha Patsey VEST
• Jane EADES

The above John EADES that married Mary Polly MASSEY is my 3rd Great Grandfather.

I hope this makes sense to you, but I think this should be proof that Freda`s records are wrong. I heard from her today and she stated that she hoped I could "figure out the family". To sum it up once again:

Kansadie "Fannie" EADES married Allen MCDANIEL Jr. Allen McDANIEL Jr is the brother of Amanda America Clementine MCDANIEL. Kansadie and Allen named their daughter Amanda probably after his sister, my grandmother, Amanda A. C.MCDANIEL. Amanda's parents were: Allen MCDANIEL Sr and Rebecca (Cassie??) MCDANIEL.

To update my readers, it seems that the current thinking in the online community is that Amanda and Luticia were daughters of one Albert McDaniel and Consadie Eads. I have never seen the Rebecca who is listed as the girls mother called anything but Rebecca, NEVER Consadie in any records that I have seen.

Below is another prior message that I sent to Cindy which explains my thinking concerning this whole family:

 Cindy, You mentioned that David stated that the info he got was from Frieda Jean WARD-WILKERSON. Let me show you a message that Frieda posted on a Genealogy Message board dated:

4 January, 2002

rhonda, i went thru my EADS file today and found the will for GILPIN EADES.he names daughters RAINY MCDANIEL,LAVINA DAVIS,NANCY DISHMAN,AND CANSADY MCDANIEL. also grandaughter PATSY CAUTHY I. MCDANIEL and wife MARTHA EADES. i don't know if 5th daughter was dead or he just didn't leave her any thing. LAVINA is wife of ALEXANDER DAVIS. NANCY is wife of THOMAS A DISHMAN, CANSADY is wife of ALLEN MCDANIEL. it was proved in court nov. 17, 1885. but my copy was cut off and it was signed december 22, 18xx. if anyone can give me that year i would appreciate it.
the spelling of there names is different from the census records, but this is just another puzzle we had to work thru. my excite e-mail ahs been down for a week but i hope to hear from you soon. love freda jean

Now, having read that bear with me and I will walk you through what I am talking about. First, forget all about our Amanda for a minute.

There is a man named Gilpen EADES who married Martha Patsey VEST. This couple had a daughter named: Kansadie "Sadie" EADES. This same Kansadie EADES married Allen McDANIEL and they had a daughter named Amanda.

Now, lets look at some dates:

Our Amanda America Clementine McDANIEL was born 4 November 1834 in Davie County, North Carolina. Gilpen EADES daughter Kansadie "Sadie" EADES was born abt 1854 in Iredell County, North Carolina, some 20 years after our Amanda was born! Also, Kansadie DID marry Allen MCDANIEL they were married in 1873 in Iredell County, North Carolina this was 39 years after the birth of Amanda A.C MCDANIEL-EADES. Kansadie and Allen`s daughter Amanda was born in 1878 in Iredell County, North Carolina. She is listed on the 1880 census for Iredell County, North Carolina, she was 2 years old at the time living in the house with her parents whose names are listed as: Allen and Fanny MCDANIEL. In the house next to them is Kansadies sister Nancy DISHMAN which is also a daughter of Allen and Kansadie.

It is my firm belief that Frieda is mixed up on this information. I think that she has taken this Kansadie to be the mother of our Amanda, which in fact it could not be true. If there are no records anywhere that state Rebeccas first name is Consadie do you not think we would be a bit premature to assume it to be so? I have contacted Frieda to see what information she has so that if I am wrong I can be corrected, however, right now I feel that perhaps her information is erroneous.

Let me reference another posting made by Frieda Jean Ward-Wilkerson on this subject as it seems according to this post that there was also some doubt in Frieda's mind as to whether she had the right person or not, here it is in her own words and I have included the link for your reference:

Now, referencing the last part of the above post it would seem to me that Freda is stating that Grandmother Amanda was born 4 Nov. 1834 and then she goes on to state that Consadie was also born in the year 1834! Then there is NO WAY Consadie can be the mother of our grandmother Amanda and her sister Lutisha! 

 I have located  a North Carolina Estate File dated September 1858 for the estate of Allen McDaniel. Listed in this document are the following names mentioned: J.R Williams a Justice of the Peace, Anderson Hendricks, J.G Stewart and John Hege listed as freeholders and appointed commissioners to view the estate of Allen McDaniel.

Given the above estate filing we can conclude that Allen died in 1858.


 Now, back to Lutisha/Letitia McDaniel. It looks as though Letitia married Albert Eads which is the brother of my Great, Great, Grandfather William Franklin Eads SR.  So, I am kin to both of these people. Lutisha is my Great, Great Grandmothers Sister which makes her my Great, Grand Aunt and she married my 2nd Great Grand Uncle.





1860 Census for Iredell North Carolina, South of Rocky Creek we find Alfred Eads listed. He was 20 years old with an estimated birth year of 1840.

Letisha is not listed on this census anywhere!   I have yet to track down where she is but when I do I will update this blog. Perhaps they were not married yet?

I am unable to locate the family in 1890 with the exception of Alfred`s father John Eads who is listed in Mill Springs, Wayne, Missouri on the 1890 Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War.

Sorting a Mess

Today I am working on trying to sort out some information concerning my Great, Great Grandmother. Her name was Amanda America Clementine McDaniel Eads. For some time now there has been information online concerning her that I feel is erroneous. Therefore I am doing my best to comb through everything and see if I cant straighten it out. I wanted to share the information here in case others are also researching her line.

Amanda America Clementine McDaniel

I show a birth date of 4 November, 1834 in Davie County, North Carolina. However, her tombstone states she was born November 1849.  The tombstone appears to be a newer one and so I am really unsure as to who had the stone placed and who gave the information that is on the stone. I am avidly searching for a death certificate for her as well.

Now, with that being said, here is where it gets complicated. According to Freida Wilkerson,there is a passage written in a book entitled "The Heritage of Iredell County 1980" published by the Iredell County North Carolina Genealogical Society. In said book there is a passage written by the late Hazel Speece Wilson. Mrs. Wilson is quoted to have stated the following:

"Consadie Eades married one Albert McDaniel, son of George and Merkie McDaniel of Davie County, North Carolina.They reared eight children: Nodie/Notie, Daisey M.,Jack, Vance, Henry, John, Jane and Amanda"

Keep in mind I have not read this book so I cannot vouch for the exact wording of the passage. However, I did do some research on Albert and Consadie and this is what turned up:

I located a entry in the North Carolina Death Index for one Sadie Eads McDaniel, died 11 January 1942 in New Hope Township, Iredell County, North Carolina. Sadie was born in the year 1854. Her parents were Gilpen and Patsey Eades. Sadie was buried 13 January 1942 in at Taylor Springs Baptist church in New Hope, Iredell County, North Carolina.

Davie County North Carolina is about twenty-seven miles from Iredell County, North Carolina. 

Puzzle number one: If the date I show for Amanda America Clementine McDaniel's birth is correct this puts her born some twenty years before Consadie/Sadie who is suppose to be her mother! We know this is impossible. Even if we go with the date on Amanda`s tombstone of 1849 this still puts Amanda being born six years before Consadie, which again is impossible.

Now,  Consadie/Sadie Eads and Albert McDaniel did have a daughter named Amanda. This daughter was born in 1878 some forty-four years after the birth of Amanda America Clementine McDaniel. Again, I think this proves that our Amanda America Clementine McDaniel was NOT the daughter of Consadie/Sadie Eads and Albert McDaniel! 

I also have located the following persons on the 1880 Census for Davie County, North Carolina:

• Allen McDaniel-age 45
• Rebecca McDaniel-age 30
• Mary McDaniel-age 12
• Amanda McDaniel-age 11
• Letitia McDaniel-age 10
• George McDaniel-age 8
• Eli McDaniel-age 7
• Lewis McDaniel-age 6
• Allen McDaniel-age 2
• Infant Female McDaniel-0

I had earlier thought perhaps this was our Amanda and her family but I am sense second guessing this, due to the fact that this Amanda was born in 1869 which again was some thirty-five years after our Amanda America Clementine McDaniel was born so I think once again it rules this family out!

At this point in time I feel it is safe to say that I am very uncertain just "who" Amanda`s parents really are. The one thing that I can be sure of is that Amanda married my Great, Great Grandfather William Franklin Eads SR on 10 November, 1860 in Davie County, North Carolina.

On the 1880 Census I located Grandmother Amanda and Grandfather William listed as below:

• Franklin Eads-age 50-born North Carolina
• Amanda Eads-age 40-born North Carolina(1840)
• Roxann Eads-age 19-born North Carolina
• Hyatt (Wyatt) Eads-age 17-born North Carolina
• Huston Eads-age 13-born North Carolina
• William Eads-age 9-born Missouri
• Nancy Eads-age 7-born Missouri
• Mary Eads-age 3-born Missouri.

We can surmise from the info above then that given the fact their son Houston was born in North Carolina in 1867 and their son William was born in Missouri in 1871 that the family had to have moved to Missouri between the years 1867-1871.

In the 1900 Census we find them living in St. Francois Township, Wayne County, Missouri

• William F. Eads-age 61-Born North Carolina
• Amanda Eads-age 51-born North Carolina-(1849)
• William A. Johnson (Grandson) age 16-Born Missouri
• Wyatt Eads-age 35 born North Carolina

In the 1910 Census we find them living in St. Francois, Wayne, Missouri still:

• Frank Eads-age 76-born North Carolina
• Manda Eads-age 66-born North Carolina (1844)
• Arthur Eads-age 15-born Missouri

So we get three different birth dates for Amanda from each of the census listings above: 1840, 1849, 1844 if we average these we come up with the date of 1844 which is actually a ten year difference from the date I have of 1834. This still makes it improbable that she is the Amanda who is the daughter of Rebecca and Allen McDaniel as that Amanda was born in 1869. The Amanda who is the daughter of Sadie and Albert McDaniel was born in 1878.
