O What a Tangled Web we Weave....

This evening I have had a breakthrough on part of my husbands line. Its so ironic its almost not even funny.

If you have been following along with my blog you will know that my husbands Y-DNA matches the FANCHER family.  We have yet to find the exact connection between the TINKER and the FANCHER families through his fathers side.

For quite sometime I have been looking at matches and coming to the conclusion that it looked as though he matched Captain Alexander FANCHER who died at the Mountain Meadows Massacre in Utah on September 11th, 1857.  Since we found out his DNA connects him to that family I have done some extensive research on it. Knowing what I know, I knew there was no way possible he could descend from Captain Alexander because all of his children but two died that day at Mountain Meadows in Utah. There were only two that survived, Christopher Kit Carson FANCHER and his sister Tryphenia D FANCHER.  As far as I know Kit never married before he died and while Tryphenia did marry and bare children, that would not apply in this case as we are looking for a Y-DNA match which would be a male FANCHER. So, as you can see I was left scratching my head and very puzzled for a while.

Let me just say never take anything at face value and do your homework and when you think you have uncovered everything there is to know, put it away for a spell and come back to it! Odds are you will find something you missed the first time around, which is exactly what happened to me. I stumbled upon a connection that had likely been there all the time but I never knew it. While this finding does not solve the mystery of why my husbands Y-DNA says he is a FANCHER, for the time being I do have at least one connection to the FANCHER family though his mothers line!

It turns out that Eliza INGRAM, wife of Captain Alexander FANCHER and my husband are 4th Cousins, 5 times removed. They connect in the following manner:

Eliza INGRAM-FANCHER
Daughter of John INGRAM & Mary NOTKEGRUEON
John INGRAM son of
Philo INGRAM and Arvilla BARNEY
Arvilla BARNEY was the daughter of
William BARNEY & Jerusha JEFFERSON
William BARNEY was the son of
David BARNEY & Elizabeth GARNSEY
David BARNEY was the son of
Daniel BARNEY & Elizabeth Elsie WHEATON.

My husbands line goes like this:

Mary Dianne ALLEN
was the daughter of Claire Lucille ALLEN
Claire Lucille ALLEN was the daughter of
Granderson Edgar ALLEN
Granderson Edgar ALLEN was the son of
Elbert Granderson ALLEN
Elbert was the son of Granderson Edward ALLEN
Granderson was the son of Charles Granderson ALLEN
Charles was the son of Barney ALLEN
Barney was the son of Joseph ALLEN & Anna BARNEY
Anna was the daughter of Constant BARNEY & Hannah CARPENTER
Constant was the son of Daniel BARNEY & Alice Elsie WHEATON

So, as you can see Eliza INGRAM-FANCHER and my husband share common great grandparents in that of Daniel BARNEY & Alice Elsie WHEATON.

One mystery solved...more to follow, stay tuned!
