Tombstone Tuesday: George Lewis Wright
Todays Tombstone Tuesday post is about my Maternal Uncle George Lewis WRIGHT. Uncle George was born 9 November, 1915 in Manila, Mississippi County, Arkansas. He was the son of Jasper Newton WRIGHT and Laura Frances STONE. On 15 September, 1935 he married my aunt, (my mother`s sister) Laura Melvina Wisteria ESTERLINE daughter of Grover Cleveland ESTERLINE & Cora Mae WILKEY.
Uncle George and Aunt Laura had six children, five born to them by birth and one by adoption. They had four sons: James Ray, Carl Dean, John Edward and Knealin Wesley WRIGHT and a daughter who was still born, her name was Brenda Sue. They legally adopted my Uncle (Laura`s brother) T.A ESTERLINE`s daughter Barbara Ann ESTERLINE and raised her.
Uncle George worked at the IXL manufacturing plant in Bernie, Missouri. He always called it the "Handle Mill". He and my father both worked there for several years. Uncle George was just an "old country boy", he never met a stranger and always loved to talk about "the good Lord" with anyone he met. He was always ready to welcome anyone into his home and to sit around the table and share a meal with them. He could be found working around the yard and in his later years he loved to go to the "sale barn" and peddle his wares. He was always buying used tools and putting new handles on them and reselling them. He was a happy man and liked to whistle while he worked. He was somewhat of a prankster and loved to make people laugh. In the last months of his life he developed alzheimers disease, it was sad to see such a jolly, happy man succumb to the effects of the disease. He forgot everyone he knew, including his wife, but he never forgot my mother. Anytime he would see her he knew who she was!
