Phillip Parks (1779-1854) DNA Connections-Part One

This post is part of a series of posts that I am compiling where I am looking at DNA connections to the Tinker Family Line. This is part one of a two part post on the Phillip PARKS lineage.

My husband`s PARKS lineage has been somewhat confusing to me as I see that it also has others. There seems to be very little, if any information concerning his 4th Great Grandfather one Phillip PARKS. Phillip was said to have been born about 1779 somewhere in Maryland. I have yet to find any documentation of his birth or of him ever living in Maryland.

Just today I did run across a Phillip PARKS who married one Hannah PACKOW 22 December, 1746 in Maryland. Some researchers believe this couple to have been the parents of our Phillip PARKS, the subject of this post. The elder Phillip PARKS is said to have died about 1810 in Union County, Tennessee. There is a 1790 Census record for one Phillip PARKS with the surname spelled: PARCKS this record shows the family to be living in Patapsco, Lower Hundred, Baltimore, Maryland. Listed in the household are the following:

  • 4 Free White Males under age 16
  • 4 Free White Males age 16 and over
  • 3 Free White Females
Total Household Members: 11

I am not certain if this is the same Phillip PARKS (the Elder) I mentioned above, more research needs to be done to see if I can connect this to him and connect him to our Phillip PARKS.

On the Tennessee Early Census record in 1799 for Grainger County, TN there is listed a Phillip PARKS. Again, I am uncertain which of these two men this was if any of them.

There is a "Marriage Record" for want of a better term on Ancestry for Phillip PARKS to Katherine WHITE. Said record states that Phillip was born in Maryland and Katherine was born in Virginia. It also states that they were married in the year 1800.

Let me just state as I have in previous posts regarding this particular source. These so called Marriage Records by Yates Publishing are nothing more than information gathered from Family Group Sheets. It is in my eyes no better than going onto ancestry and pulling someone else`s information from their trees whether said information is sourced or not. Read the source information below the source as I have listed here.

Yates Publishing. U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2004. Original data: This unique collection of records was extracted from a variety of sources including family group sheets and electronic databases. Originally, the information was derived from an array of materials including pedigree charts, family history articles, querie.

Need I say more? If this is the only record that folks are using to "verify" that our Phillip PARKS was born in Maryland then I have to say I am questioning the validity of that statement at this point.

Phillip PARKS appears on an 1814 Tax list in Washington County, Tennessee

He also appears on the 1830-1850 Census records in Washington County, Tennessee.  Phillip PARKS is believed to have died about June of 1854 in Unicoi, Washington County, Tennessee.

Part two of this post will deal with the DNA matches surrounding this PARKS family line. Stay tuned!
