Update on Skylar

Since I am in a blogging mood today, I thought I would take the time to give an update on our grandson Skylar, for those who may be wondering.
If you have not read his story you can do so HERE. To recap Skylar was born with a Congenital Heart Defect called Tetralogy of Fallot with Absent Pulmonary Valve (TOF/APV).
He has had one Open Heart Procedure to date as well as placement of a Trach Tube to assist with his breathing as you can see in the pictures of him I have posted here. He has also had several Cardiac Cath procedures done as well.
This past week he had an MRI of his Brain done. The doctors had discussed the possibility of him needing a shunt placed. However, after reviewing results the Neurologist stated he feels that he does not need one. The Cardiac docs apparently were not comfortable with that opinion and they have asked that the Head Neuro Doc take a look and give his opinion before they sign off on it.

Other than that Skylar has made some improvements to date. He was finally able to come off the Heli Ox Vent they had him on. He is off all sedation and Mommy and Daddy have been able to hold him some. It looks as though it might still be a bit before they can even contemplate bringing him home, its really up to him now and how he does. He is definitely a fighter and he gets agitated very easily. His weight is only up to 12 pounds but that has been due to the fact that they were giving him low calorie formula as the Docs were not comfy with him gaining too much weight at first. They have since upped his formula intake and added some fat into his diet. It is paying off as you can see by his chubby little cheeks in the photo below.

Skylar Damien-March 2014 Age 5 Months
He will be six months old in a couple of days. We are thankful for the progress he has made thus far and continually ask for prayers for him and his Mother and Father in the days to come. I am going to close with a photo of him in his mothers arms.
