Acord Cousins

I was happy to log into my 23andMe account and find I had yet another close cousin to pop up. After doing a little research I was able to connect her as being my third cousin. She connects to me through my Maternal Side. The ACORD family. I have been looking for matches on that line and was happy to finally have found one. I am hoping now that I know how she and I connect to be able to connect others on that line as well.

We share 1.59% across 6 segments and she is calculated to be a third cousin. We connect in the following manner: My Great Grandmother was Rachael ACORD daughter of Martin Van Buren ACORD and Elizabeth WRIGHT. Her ancestor was a brother to my Great Grandmother Rachael. Our most recent common ancestor being that of Martin Van Buren ACORD and Elizabeth WRIGHT.

I can definitely say at this point that I am my mothers daughter. There was never any question, just stating that I share a lot of DNA with my mothers side of the family. I have been unable to locate any really close cousins through my fathers side as a result of having my DNA tested, I know that there are matches that do match my fathers side but there are some open spaces in my tree that need to be filled in in order for me to be able to pinpoint the exact places where we match. So far I have located close cousins through my WILKEY, ACORD and ESTERLINE families. Those are all Maternal as I previously stated.

My ACORD family was from Acord Mountain near Slab Fork in Raleigh County, West Virginia. The gentleman in this photo is my third great grandfather Job Jacob ACORD.
