Children of Allen & Rebecca McDaniel

This last evening late I was able to do a little more research and pull up the children belonging to Allen McDaniel and his wife Rebecca. My 4th Great Grandparents. I shall list those below.

• Mary McDaniel born 1838
• Amanda A. C McDaniel born 1834 or abt 1839
• Letitia McDaniel-born abt 1840
• George Washington McDaniel born 19 June 1842
• Eli Henry McDaniel born 1843
• Lewis McDaniel born 1844
• Allen McDaniel born 1848
• Sarah McDaniel born 1850
• Margaret McDaniel born 1853

List of Son and Daughter in Laws thus far:

• William Franklin Eads (m) Amanda America Clementine McDaniel
• Alfred Eads (m) Letitia McDaniel

I am quite confused at this point with Mary McDaniel. It looked to me like she was the oldest daughter but given the fact that Grandmothers birth date shows to be 1834 then Mary would have been born after her. I have found several Mary McDaniels born in the same year as she. One that brings a lot of interest to me has married a William Stewart. I did a little digging and found the following concerning the Mary McDaniel who married William Stewart.

First I would make mention of an earlier post in this blog where I noted that I found the name J.G Stewart as a commissioner of the will of Allen McDaniel (Mary`s father) so that would be the main reason why the name Stewart in connection with Mary McDaniel caught my eye.

I found a Mary McDaniel in entry for Rebecca Stewart McDaniel who died 8 May, 1941 in Mocksville Township, Davie, North Carolina. Said Rebecca was born 27 June, 1870 her spouse was listed as being one James McDaniel and her parents were Mary McDaniel Stewart and William Stewart.

Now, if the above Mary is our Mary it would stand to reason why she would name her daughter Rebecca, possibly after her own mother Rebecca McDaniel?

This Mary McDaniel married William Stewart on 20 June, 1857 in Davie, North Carolina. Now with that being said it looks as though William and Mary also had a son named William Franklin Stewart. William F. Stewart first married one Emma Carter and then later married a woman named Mary also. I later find William F.`s Mary listed as Maggie M. Stewart.There is a death entry for him dated 12 July 1932 in High Point, North Carolina.

I was doing a little digging in some old files I had saved on Ancestry and found a Bible Record entry for this family. According to the Bible record it had listed William F. Stewart as the son of William and Mary Stewart nee McDaniel, along with this listing was Williams Grandmother also named Mary McDaniel with a death date for the Grandmother of 2 March 1891.  Also in the household was one James McDaniel who I presume to be the second Mary (Mary McDaniel Stewart`s) brother and the elder Mary`s son. Said record also states that Rebecca Stewart McDaniel daughter of Mary McDaniel Stewart had two children named Genie and Walter McDaniel.

Confusing I must say with the interchanging of the surnames McDaniel and Stewart is it not. Let me explain:

• Rebecca Stewart McDaniel (Parents William Stewart & Mary Stewart nee McDaniel.) It would seem that said Rebecca was a Stewart by birth but also married a McDaniel? Someone with the same surname as her mother? Rebecca is listed as having two children both with the surname of McDaniel. 

And last but not least I am not even one hundred percent certain that one of these Mary`s is our Mary that was a sister to Amanda and Letitia and George and the rest of the bunch. I will say that if one is it would most certainly have to have been the Grandmother Mary listed above because the wife of William Stewart was born about 1870 so it would have to be her Mother, the elder Mary. If that is our Mary, then her mother has only been referenced to as Rebecca in any records I have seen thus far. Confusing for certain!. Stay tuned because I will do some more digging sometime tomorrow and see what I can turn up on these Mary women.
