Surname Saturday: Parks Family Surname

Today's Surname Saturday post is about the surname PARKS.  The Parks Surname has its roots in ancient Scotland. It seems to have been derived from the Old English word Parc
There are several variations to the surname, some of which include the following: Park, Parke, Parks, Parkes,..etc.

Richard Parks, one of the earliest known Parks family ancestors arrived in Cambridge Massachusetts in 1647.

One Notable Person with the surname Parks:

William Arthur Parks- 1868-1936 he was a Canadian Geologist and Paleontologist.

According to Ancestry.com website the largest group of immigrants who carry the surname Parks came from England, followed by Ireland, Great Brittan and then Scotland as well as Germany and then Mecklenburg.

The top occupation for those with the Parks surname was that of a Farmer, followed by a Laborer and then a Carpenter.

Most men with the surname Parks who fought in the Civil War did so on the Union side.
How does Parks relate to our Family? My husbands 3rd Great Grandmother was one Nancy Jane PARKS wife of James Abraham TINKER and daughter of Phillip PARKS and Katherine WHITE.
